Megabus

I
needed to go to St. Louis from Kansas City a couple of weeks ago to pick up a car, so I decided to try something new.  I booked a trip on megabus.com.  The cool thing about this company is that you can travel  between midwestern cities for as little as $1.50 U.S. one way!  The earlier you book the trip, the cheaper it is.  I bought my ticket five days before I left and my one-way ticket to St. Louis was only $10.50, which is cheaper than it would have cost to drive!

I went to downtown K.C. at 10th & Main to catch the bus, fully expecting the worst.  I just planned on a dirty, smelly, overcrowded, hot bus, expecting to "get what I paid for".

Wow!  I was pleasantly surprised.  The bus was super clean and comfortable.  The seats reclined and had plenty of elbow room.  The bus was less than half full, so I had four seats all to myself.  Using my GPS, I determined that we were typically going about 73 mph (in a 70 mph zone), and we arrived just 10 minutes later than scheduled at Union Station in St. Louis.

The only negatives would be the necessity to have someone drop you
off/pick you up at your destination, and the need for transportation
within the destination city.   With gas prices being so high, this alternative is an excellent choice even if you have to rent a car once your there.

The bottom line is that I would recommend this company for anyone who would otherwise be driving to one of the cities they cover.  The savings and the comfort are great.

Cooliris

I’m really digging the Cooliris plugin for Firefox.  It lets you run your mouse over link and see a preview of the website and even use the webpage in the preview window.  I highly recommend checking it out.  Be sure to watch the tutorial so you can get the full use out of it.

Blogoversary

21 06 2006

This is the one year anniversary of my blog.  It’s been fun.  I’ve had days where I couldn’t wait to post something and weeks where I didn’t feel like posting anything!

I’ve found blogging to be exciting and fun, while at the same time, it can feel like a homework assignment that you know you’ve got to do in school but keep putting off…

What I’ve enjoyed most this year has been other peoples’ blogs.   To see what I read daily, just click on the cute little buttons over on the side bar!

A few tidbits:

* Babulife and Life with Little Women have referred more than half of my traffic!  Thanks U2!
* The post that was read the most…  was about not freaking out about Gas prices and a trackback to this story gives me 15% of my traffic.
* Half of the search engine referrals to my site were generated by this post about "LOST" – my favorite TV show.  The single most searched word to find my site was "wayzata".

Fun with Scripts

Check out the countdown timer on the right sidebar.  I found it on a site that gives away all kinds of code for creating little tricks on your webpage.   (like the annoying little pop-up windows) You can find it here.
