The Kansas City Star has another article that seems custom written for my blog…
It’s about how the militaries of different countries are interacting and viewing each others’ cultures and customs while living together in a war zone. It features a comment by a member of my former Army unit from Olathe, Kansas and it highlights some habits of the Romanian soldiers.
One of the cultural differences noted is how the Romanian soldiers see the Americans piling meat on their plates in the mess hall as gluttonous, while the American soldiers call the Romanians "locusts" because of the way they devour all of the fruits and vegetables.

I just read a USA Today article via 43Folders titled "CEO’s say how you treat a waiter can predict a lot about character", and it has me motivated. You’ll read of Raytheon CEO Bill Swanson, who watches potential employees to see how they treat people before he hires them. He looks at the heart, the character of the person, not the outward appearance. He warns us to be wary of those with "situational values". He is essentially saying "as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise". This is a Christ-like attribute and one I desire to nurture in myself and others.
I am usually kind to waiters, bellhops, pizza delivery guys, tech support people, factory workers etc., as I’ve filled these rolls myself; but I want to be more like Christ in how I treat all people.
Why do "Swanson’s Unwritten Rules" work?
