Make it Happen

26 07 2006

HowevideoSunday at Grace Church we had a skit about a cheesy “motivational” seminar where the speaker would solve all of your problems with three magical words…

The skit starred:
Brad as Jerry “Make it Happen” Wilson
Ben as “Lynn” the “Disgruntled Postal Worker”
Addie as Jerry’s “Over the Rainbow” singing sidekick
Several other wonderful actors from Grace as well as yours truly as an audience “plant”

The skit was to introduce the “Satisfaction” series message by Pastor Tim Howey called “Dis-Information”. Listen here

This bump was something I threw together the night before the skit. We were going to just have Brad’s picture with the words “Make it Happen” but I couldn’t leave it alone… I had to add some cheese.

Intelligent Failure

4 04 2006

“An inventor is simply a person who doesn’t take his education too
seriously. You see, from the time a person is six years old until he
graduates form college he has to take three or four examinations a
year. If he flunks once, he is out. But an inventor is almost always
failing. He tries and fails maybe a thousand times. It he succeeds once
then he’s in. These two things are diametrically opposite. We often say
that the biggest job we have is to teach a newly hired employee how to
fail intelligently. We have to train him to experiment over and over
and to keep on trying and failing until he learns what will work.”  -Charles Keetering

Kirby Puckett

6 03 2006

Puckett It hurt to read that Kirby Puckett died today.    From 1989-1990, I got to know Kirby a little bit through my job.  He was always generous and conversational with me.  Those two years, I got to meet dozens of American League Baseball Players, but Kirby was one of the few that stood out to me because he talked with me as if I were a friend.

Many web sources include this as a quote of his: "Don’t take anything for granted, because tomorrow is not promised to any of us."  hmmm…

Farris_hassan_2"If I know what is needed and what is right, but do not act on my moral
conscience, I would be a hypocrite. I must do what I say decent
individuals should do. I want to live my days so that my nights are not
full of regrets
.
Therefore, I must go." -Farris Hassan, 16, who travelled to Iraq without telling his parents
